Romans weren't too fond of cavalry, preferring to leave it to their allies to deal with in battle. The cavalry they did use were christened "Equus" Latin for "horse". The Equus's main role was scouting and running messages around, they were also useful in running down a routed enemy, preventing any enemy soldiers from returning to their homeland. In times of peace they were employed as Imperial messengers, running lettiers ang messages across the vast Roman Empire.
